A Ghanaian national fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing Ukraine war has alleged that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas contacted him for information on the reported forced recruitment of Africans into Russia’s military.
The soldier, whose identity remains undisclosed, denied being coerced, insisting he voluntarily enlisted in the Russian army. He issued a stern warning to Anas, accusing him of attempting to frame the recruitment as illegal.
Reports have surfaced in recent months about Russia recruiting African fighters, including Ghanaians, to bolster its forces in Ukraine. However, the Ghanaian government has denied any official involvement, stating it does not support participation in foreign conflicts.
While Anas has not publicly confirmed the probe, his previous undercover exposés on corruption and human rights abuses suggest he may be scrutinizing the alleged exploitation of African fighters in the war.
