Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena, aged 28, passed away after collapsing during a match between FK Egnatia and Partizani.
The incident occurred on Saturday, and despite efforts by medical professionals, Dwamena could not be resuscitated.
Video footage circulated on social media shows the player collapsing on the pitch in the 24th minute of the game.
Several of Dwamena’s former clubs, including FC Zurich and Levante, have expressed their condolences on his untimely death. The cause of his collapse and subsequent death has not been officially disclosed.
Dwamena’s death has been confirmed by some of his former clubs, with Swiss side FC Zurich taking to X (formerly Twitter) to mourn him.
During his career, Dwamena played for clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark.
Levante, one of Dwamena’s former teams, paid tribute to the forward.
“FC Zurich mourns Raphael Dwamena. Rest in Peace Raphael Dwamena. You will always be one of us!” the club wrote.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time. Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse. Rest In Peace Raphael!”
Although the details concerning the footballer’s death remain scanty at the moment, Dwamena had been battling a health condition for many years.
