GHANAIAN LANDLORD ARRESTED FOR REMOVING TENANT’S ROOF IN RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA

The police in Rivers state have arrested a Ghanaian national identified as Samuel Frimpong for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant, Anozie Tochukwu, who resides at No. 7 Chief Chike Street, Mgbuoba, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Frimpong reportedly destroyed Tochukwu’s apartment’s roof after he neglected to leave after a two-week grace period had passed.

Tochukwu stated that he has regularly paid his rent since moving into Frimpong’s home in January 2024. He said that somewhere in the last quarter of 2025, Frimpong wrote to him requesting that he leave the apartment and do any necessary repairs before turning over the keys by the end of January 2026.

He stated that he visited his landlord on February 1 and requested an extension until February 14 to vacate. He claimed to have even shown Frimpong the money he received for securing a new residence.

With his pregnant wife and two kids inside, he said that his landlord unexpectedly broke into his apartment on February 3 and started to de-roof it.

He said that all of his belongings, including documents, credentials, and furniture, were destroyed as a result of a strong downpour that occurred soon after the roof was removed.

‘’Currently, all my properties worth 25 Million Naira got damaged inclusive of 43 inches Maxi television, a deep freezer, chandelier, set of chairs, NYSC certificate, my degree certificate, my professional certifications, books, clothes, foodstuff, 4×6 foam and bed frame, baby medications, pregnancy medications, my wife’s certificates, children birth certificate, my shoes, children shoes and wife shoes, and my saving box of close to nine months of saving is missing. My ceiling fan is missing,” Mr Tochukwu said.

On Wednesday, February 3, the landlord was taken into custody after the matter was brought right away to the Ozuoba Police Division in Obio/Akpor, Rivers State.

Grace Iringe-Koko, a police photographer, verified Mr Frimpong’s arrest and stated that an inquiry is underway.
