GHANAIANS CALL FOR AKUFO-ADDO’S RESIGNATION AS UK PM RESIGNS

Following a similar move by the UK Prime Minister, social media users, notably on Twitter, have called for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to step down.

On July 7, Boris Johnson made his resignation as leader of the Conservative Party official.

Numerous factors, such as the rising cost of living, a tax increase, and most recently, the widespread resignation of cabinet colleagues, led to his departure.

“I’d agreed with Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of our backbench MPs, that the process of choosing that new leader should begin now. And the timetable will be announced next week.

“So I want to say to the millions of people who voted for us in 2019, many of them voted Conservative, for the first time. Thank you for that incredible mandate. The biggest Conservative majority, since 1987,” he said.

Even though the situation hasn’t been fully resolved, some social media users, notably on Twitter, are urging President Akufo-Addo to follow suit.

As justification for their proposal, the proponents have pointed to Ghana’s economic difficulties as well as the rising price of petrol and general increases in living expenses.
