Reggae and Dancehall artist, Livingstone Etse Satekla Stonebwoy, has expressed his displeasure regarding the hostility he frequently encounters from a portion of Ghanaians, especially on social media.
In an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast, he shared how a playful interaction on TikTok Live with Nigerian influencer Peller escalated into an unwarranted controversy in Nigeria.
“It’s heartbreaking. It really is. And it needs to be addressed,” he said. “In 2025, it’s sad that this kind of mentality still exists among us as Ghanaians.”
Stonebwoy clarified that his encounter with Peller was entirely spontaneous.
He was in a live session expressing gratitude to his fans for their support when the young influencer entered.
“I didn’t even recognize the name at first. I declined it twice before finally accepting. And then, we started vibing. I saw an opportunity to turn it into a promotional moment, so I joked about flying him to London,” he recalled.
Nevertheless, what was intended to be a positive and engaging experience transformed into an online discussion, with some Ghanaians discovering unwarranted reasons to disparage the interaction.
“Instead of pushing the moment forward, we now have to defend it. And by the time we finish defending, the momentum is lost,” he lamented.
Stonebwoy likened this scenario to a previous event at the Grammys, where he presented himself to an international celebrity, but some Ghanaians mocked him rather than appreciating the chance to connect.
“It’s interesting how the negative anrrative always becomes more popular. That’s the sad part. We should be elevating our own people, not dragging them down,” he emphasized.
