GOSPEL STAR CWESI OTENG REVEALS DARK PAST AS GAMBLING ENFORCER BEFORE SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION
Celebrated gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has stunned fans with revelations about his troubled youth, confessing to once operating as a gambling enforcer who terrorized his community before his dramatic conversion to Christianity.
In an emotional interview with Joy Prime, the “God Dey Bless Me” hitmaker described his former life as a neighborhood menace who controlled illegal gambling operations. “I wasn’t just participating – I was collecting 10% from every game as the enforcer,” Oteng revealed. “We were the bad boys everyone feared, the reason community elders held emergency meetings about the youth in our area.”
The award-winning artist painted a vivid picture of his reckless past, detailing nights spent hopping between Accra’s nightclubs by night while running gambling rings by day. His notoriety grew so pronounced that local leaders considered interventions to curb his group’s influence on younger residents.
Oteng’s shocking confession comes as he prepares to release his new album “Redemption Songs,” which industry insiders say reflects his personal journey from street tough to gospel star. His transformation began in 2010 with the breakout single “Meye Nsoromma,” which marked his public embrace of Christianity.
“People see the polished gospel artist now,” Oteng told Joy Prime. “But my testimony is that no one is too far gone for God’s grace. If He could change me, He can change anyone still trapped in that life.”
