‘GIVE ME MY STONE, IF TODAY YOU SAY FREE SHS IS GOOD’ – Akufo-Addo Tells Mahama

President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to acknowledge his role in introducing the Free SHS policy.

He noted that when he first suggested the Free SHS policy, then-President Mahama opposed the idea.

Nevertheless, Mr Mahama now aims to take credit for it as his own idea.

President Akufo-Addo responded to Mr Mahama’s claim that his administration started the Free SHS program in 2015.

During a media engagement on July 7th, Mr Mahama denied the assertion that he was against the Free SHS policy, stating that it was actually initiated by his government.

During the introduction of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, President Akufo-Addo urged Mr Mahama to acknowledge him for the policy’s worth.

‘This man criticised us when we said we were going to implement the Free SHS policy. Now that Ghanaians have accepted the policy, he is saying he is the one who introduced Free SHS. Have you ever heard such a thing?’

‘He indeed said that we are forgetful people. Will we forget this too?‘ President Akufo-Addo said.

“Today, the leader of the NDC claims he is the one who introduced Free SHS. If he introduced the policy, why did he criticise us when we intended to introduce it?

“He said if he had GH¢2 billion, he would not invest it in free education. If today he has seen the importance of the policy, he should give me my stone,” he stated.
