GOMOA CENTRAL MP, KWAME A-PLUS PUSHES BILL TO CRIMINALISE PATERNITY FRAUD IN GHANA

Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central and popularly known as A Plus, has announced intentions to propose a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament to make paternity fraud a criminal offense in Ghana.
The legislator firmly asserts that every woman who is pregnant knows who the biological father of her child is. He claims that intentionally assigning a pregnancy to a man who isn’t the biological father should incur legal penalties.
While appearing on United Showbiz on February 14, 2026, A Plus explained that his suggestion is not aimed at making adultery a crime.
Rather, he stated that the emphasis is on penalizing those who deliberately deceive men into taking responsibility for children that are not their biological offspring.
I am not saying adultery should be criminalised. But if you deliberately pin a pregnancy on a man who did not get you pregnant, that should be punishable by law.
He also pointed out that although there is no law barring a married woman from having an affair, honesty is essential when a pregnancy occurs.
He believes it is unjust and ethically wrong for a man to take on the financial and emotional burden of a child that isn’t his biological offspring.
Every woman who gets pregnant knows the father of her child. If you are married and also having an affair, no law stops you from getting pregnant. But when you do, don’t attribute the pregnancy to someone who did not get you pregnant. Be honest with your partners.
The Gomoa Central MP highlighted that the suggested legislation is not just a proposal but has already been prepared and will shortly be officially submitted to Parliament.
The bill we are taking to Parliament is not something we are just thinking about; it has already been drafted
