‘GOSPEL MUSICIANS DESERVE BETTER, WE SHOULD BE PAID WELL’ – Philipa Baafi

Popular Gospel artiste, Philipa Baafi, has lamented the meager compensation gospel musicians receive after  performing at events.

During an interview with DJ Toxic on Neat FM’s “My Praise,” she brought up the fact that gospel performers frequently do not get the attention and compensation they merit for their performances.

According to Philipa Baafi, the absence of financial incentives has caused a drop in gospel music and the departure of many talented musicians from the genre.

She related a story about an instrumentalist who confronted a musician about not getting paid after a show, bringing attention to the financial difficulties in the music business.

Philipa Baafi highlighted her disgust at this persistent problem, pointing out that event planners often take advantage of gospel musicians by not paying them properly.

She revealed that, as result of inadequate support, many performers who started out in the gospel genre have moved to other genres. She underlined that because gospel musicians’ job is seen as ministry to God, they sometimes receive little compensation despite the tremendous commitment they make in their skill.

“Many secular musicians started in the church but left because they were not properly supported,” Philipa Baafi revealed.

She blamed insufficient support in the music industry for the financial struggles experienced by aging performers, which occasionally prompt them to make public pleas for help.
