GOVERNMENT ORDERS RECALL OF DIPLOMATIC AND SERVICE PASSPORTS TO SAFEGUARD INTEGRITY

As directed by the Office of the President, the government has initiated a nationwide recall of all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration.

In a letter dated January 14, 2025, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, stated that the directive reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use of official travel documents. The recall aims to prevent misuse, protect Ghana’s international reputation, and uphold the integrity of its diplomatic engagements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has spearheaded the exercise by issuing a public notice for all holders of such passports to return them for verification and reissuance, where necessary. To ensure the process is completed swiftly, the deadline for compliance has been set for January 24, 2025.

“This recall aims to prevent misuse, safeguard the country’s reputation, and maintain the integrity of our diplomatic engagements,” the letter emphasized.

The directive also mandates a thorough review of all returned passports to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria for issuance. “Conduct a thorough verification to align with the eligibility standards,” Dr. Mahama noted.

The Office of the President stressed the importance of the Ministry’s cooperation in this exercise, noting that it would significantly enhance the credibility and efficiency of Ghana’s passport system.
