GOV’T TO REDUCE ORDINARY PASSPORT FEE FROM GH¢500 TO GH¢350

The government has announced a 25% reduction in the cost of obtaining an ordinary passport. The price of the 32-page Ordinary Passport booklet will now be 350 Ghana cedis, down from 500 Ghana cedis.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the announcement during a parliamentary address on March 13, 2025, stating that the decision was made on the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama. The reduction is part of the Mahama administration’s new policy to make essential services more affordable for citizens.

To formalize the new pricing, an amendment to the fees and charges will be presented to Parliament for approval. Once ratified, the reduced rate will take effect, ensuring that Ghanaians can obtain passports at a more affordable cost.

Minister Ablakwa emphasized that the reduction in passport fees is part of the government’s commitment to enhancing accessibility while maintaining high security standards. “This reduction reflects our dedication to ensuring that every Ghanaian can access essential travel documents without undue financial burden,” he stated.
