GOV’T TO REIMBURSE ACADEMIC FEES FOR 1ST-YEAR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UNDER ‘NO-FEES-STRESS’ POLICY

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has revealed intentions to refund academic fees for first-year students registered in certified diploma or degree programs at public tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year.

As stated in a press release from the SLTF on May 12, the initiative known as the No-Fees-Stress policy will be implemented starting next month, following policy directives from the Ministry of Education.

The action signifies the John Mahama administration’s continuous dedication to enhancing access to higher education and investing in the country’s human resources, as stated by the Student Loan Trust Fund, which made the announcement.

The reimbursement aims to ease the burden of increasing tertiary education costs on new students and foster a more inclusive academic setting where no deserving student is excluded because of financial limitations.

“In a significant step towards alleviating financial hardships faced by first-year students, the SLTF is set to reimburse academic user fees for first-year students pursuing accredited diploma or degree programmes in public tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year, under the No-Fees-Stress policy,” the statement read.
