Dr. Louisa Satekla, married to the famous musician Stonebwoy, shares important advice about oral care.
She warns against using hard-bristled toothbrushes because they can damage your teeth and gums rather than protect them
“Some people say, ‘Oh, I want to brush, so I’ll use a very hard bristle to take away every remnant of food.’ Sadly, that’s another thing we hear a lot.
“They say, ‘Oh, I feel better when I use the hard bristle.’ We do not recommend a hard bristle toothbrush. They damage your teeth and your gums as well,” she explained during an interview on Joy Prime.
Dr. Louisa, a skilled dentist, recommends brushes with soft or medium bristles. She emphasizes that how you brush your teeth is more crucial than the force you use.
“It’s really just the technique and not the intensity of your brushing because you’re going to eventually damage your teeth and your gums if you use a hard-bristle toothbrush,” she warned.
In addition, she stresses the vital role of flossing, a critical yet often overlooked part of maintaining oral health. Many people skip flossing, but it is essential for a healthy mouth.
“When you brush, you’re cleaning the front, back, and top of your teeth, but you’re missing about 30% of your tooth surfaces. When you use floss, you can reach the spaces your toothbrush cannot,” she advised.
Her guidance is a vital reminder to practice good oral hygiene to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
