HEALTH MINISTRY TO INVESTIGATE FOURTH ESTATE REPORT ON RIDGE HOSPITAL

The Ministry of Health has declared that it will look into concerns brought up in a Fourth Estate investigative report about the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also referred to as Ridge Hospital.

The Ministry stated in a press release that it had taken notice of the article, which has sparked public alarm and been extensively shared on social media.

“The Ministry of Health has taken note of an investigative report published by The Fourth Estate media house on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge,” the statement said.

The Ministry offered its condolences to patients and their families who could have been mistreated at medical facilities.

“The Ministry sympathises with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country,” it stated.

It reiterated the government’s resolve to lessen the burden on individuals seeking medical attention.

Government remains committed to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare,” the release said.

Nonetheless, the Ministry stated that several of the report’s conclusions worried it and that it thinks the issue needs close examination.

“We are deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. The Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination,” the statement noted.

Consequently, the Ministry announced that it is conducting an official investigation into the claims.

“Accordingly, the Ministry of Health is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter,” the release announced.

The Ministry claims that the committee will be given a precise deadline to finish its task.

The committee is expected to submit its report within fourteen (14) working days,” it said.

In order to establish the facts and improve healthcare service, the Ministry further urged all stakeholders to fully participate with the investigation.

“The Ministry expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help unravel the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within our health system,” the statement added.
