HIGH COURT GRANTS BAIL OF GHC70K EACH TO AMA GOVERNOR AND EIGHT OTHERS FOLLOWING ARREST OF #STOPGALAMSEYNOW PROTESTERS

In a significant development, the Accra High Court has granted bail to popular Ghanaian lawyer and social media personality, Elorm Ababio, widely known as Ama Governor, alongside eight other protesters. The group was part of a Democracy Hub protest and faced charges that resulted in their recent detention.

The bail conditions, set at GHC 70,000 for each individual, also require two sureties for their release. The protesters were reportedly arrested during a peaceful demonstration organized by the Democracy Hub, advocating for good governance and accountability in Ghana.

Ama Governor, known for her strong activism and outspoken stance on social issues, has garnered widespread support since her arrest, with many citizens and activists rallying for her release. The protest itself, organized to highlight democratic concerns, attracted considerable attention both online and in various media outlets.

The legal battle over their detainment has sparked public discourse around freedom of assembly, speech, and the broader challenges facing activists in Ghana today. The bail announcement comes as a relief to supporters who have been following the case closely, with many calling for a review of how authorities treat protesters and dissenting voices.

While Ama Governor and her fellow protesters have now been granted temporary freedom, the case has left many reflecting on the state of democracy and civil rights in the country. The next steps in the legal proceedings will be keenly observed, as the group continues to advocate for the issues that led to their initial protest.

Media reports indicate that the case is expected to return to court for further hearings, where the charges against the protesters will be addressed in full.
