HON. HAWA KOOMSON’S SON STABBED

Ato Koomson, son of the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has reportedly been stabbed in a violent altercation near the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa.

According to reports, Ato Koomson was critically injured and rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Another individual was also injured during the incident.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the clash began early in the morning when supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) disagreed over the positioning of residents in the queue for the ongoing voter ID card transfer and replacement exercise.

King Adawu, an NPP member who was also injured in the incident, recounted that the altercation turned violent when an NDC member allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ato Koomson in the chest.

Adawu, who attempted to intervene, sustained a minor cut to his hand.

Both Koomson and Adawu were quickly taken to the hospital. Adawu was treated and discharged, while Koomson remains admitted in critical condition.

Police have since arrested the main suspect, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

This violent incident has raised concerns about political tensions and violence surrounding the voter registration process in the area.
