HOW MANY MOVIES SHOULD I STAR IN TO QUALIFY AS A CELEBRITY? – Akuapem Poloo Quizzes Critics

Ghanaian actress and socialite Akuapem Poloo is seeking clarity from social media commentators on what determines if someone is considered a celebrity.
She finds it difficult to comprehend why certain critics do not recognize her as that.
Akuapem Poloo expressed this worry in an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes program with Roselyn Felli on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
In their conversation, Roselyn Felli asked, “How did you become a celebrity? People say you’re not a celebrity, but I think you’re a celebrity because a celebrity is one who has a fanbase and Akuapem Poloo has a fun base.”
She responded, “I don’t just have a fun base, I’ve done a lot of movies; Odo Lastic, Sala with Jackie Appiah, Away Bus; a lot of movies. So how many movies do you want me to do before you call me a celebrity?” the actress quizzed while responding to the host.
Detailing her rise to significant popularity on social media, Poloo disclosed that she partnered with a blogger recognized for posting controversial content about celebrities to help her trend and capture public interest.
“I saw the page talking about celebrities only in a negative way. So I asked myself why the person is fighting all the celebrities. I reached out to her and she responded after 3 months. So I told her that I wanted her to do an advert about me on her page.”
She claimed that the blogger initially opposed the idea, but she ultimately paid for the post because of her desperation for recognition.
The blogger orchestrated a conflict with Akuapem Poloo, which became viral on social media and attracted public interest towards her.
The socialite produced videos and shared them to back the blogger’s material, which ultimately brought her the recognition she had expected.
“After showing all the movies I’ve done and the songs I’ve been featured on, she said we can’t still use that. So she will pick a fight with me by claiming that I called her a prostitute and she’ll let me do some videos and she would use them to insult me on Instagram and Facebook.”
The actress mentioned that she had spent numerous years in the industry without being acknowledged.
Following the blogger’s posts, she started getting ambassadorial offers and interview requests from TV stations. She determined that the strategy had greatly influenced her professional development.
