The Economic Advisor and Spokesperson for the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako has bemoaned the hypocrisy among Ghanaians over the recent protests in the country against illegal mining.
There is a surge of protests from various groups in the country with the very recent one by a group called Democracy Hub Protesters some members were arrested and currently facing trial for reported misdemeanour and lawlessness.
Some religious leaders and religious bodies as well as prominent persons in the country have joined in the protest against galamsey predominantly happening in most of the regions in Ghana destroying the water bodies and forest reserves with its consequential impact on human health as some natives of the communities affected by the illegal mining consume the water one way or the other.
In a rather varying perspective, Dr Gideon Boako believes it is hypocritical on the part of Ghanaians to be mute over the polluted Korle Lagoon and Odaw River in Accra but agitate and make noise over River Pra and River Tan.
He asserts all rivers in the country must be given equal attention.
