Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson has provided a thoughtful response to Minority Leader Afenyo Markin’s objections regarding the 2025 budget, recognizing the considerable pressure faced by the Minority Leader.
Dr. Forson made his remarks during an interview on Citi TV’s Talk Point on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, reacting to Afenyo-Markin calling the budget “azaa” (deceptive).
Dr. Forson, who was once a Minority Leader, showed sympathy toward Afenyo-Markin’s viewpoint.
“Were you surprised? I’ve been a minority leader before and I can understand his work, so let’s allow him to do his work” Dr. Ato Forson stated.
In response to a particular discussion about Afenyo-Markin’s description of a colleague, Forson explained his connection with the Minority Leader.
“He’s my former friend. Now he’s my brother,” Forson explained, emphasizing the personal dynamics while also respecting the political differences.
Dr. Forson expanded on the challenges confronting Afenyo Markin, highlighting the recent election defeats and the reduced number of parliamentary seats for his party.
“I do recognize the pressure he’s going through. His party has just lost an election and their number, I mean Parliament has reduced from 138 to 87,His party currently, as we speak, he’s the main voice for his party and so he has to do his job and I appreciate that. I appreciate it,” he asserted.
