‘I AM GOING THROUGH A LOT’ – Kotoko Coach Karim Zito Laments

Despite leading the only unbeaten team in the Ghana Premier League, the Porcupine Warriors' manager has revealed the immense mental and physical toll of constant player injuries on his squad.

Asante Kotoko head coach, Karim Zito, has opened up about the intense pressure he is facing, citing an unrelenting injury crisis that is severely testing his squad’s depth and his own mental fortitude.

Zito’s candid revelation came after his side was held to a 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in a Matchday 10 encounter on Sunday. While Kotoko remains the only unbeaten team in the league this season, the coach highlighted the hidden struggles behind their resilient form.

“What I’m going through in this club is not easy. If you don’t have mental toughness, you can’t. Every day of the week, some player will get injured,” Zito stated in a post-match interview.

He detailed the extent of the problem, revealing that he was forced to field players who were not fully fit. “I had to force Dauda Saaka to play. I have to use what I have to get what I want, though we couldn’t achieve the target,” he explained, emphasizing that he was not making excuses but simply stating the challenges at hand.

The Porcupine Warriors have a quick turnaround, with a rescheduled league match against Young Apostles today, followed by a Matchday 11 clash with FC Samartex this weekend. The injury situation presents a significant hurdle for Zito as he attempts to maintain the team’s unbeaten run while navigating a congested fixture list.
