Ghanaian musician and businesswoman, Mzbel recently explained why she prefers traditional beliefs over Christianity.
In a recent interview, she made it clear that she is not against Christianity. She simply doesn’t believe in it but respects everyone’s right to their own faith.
Mzbel feels more connected to African traditional religions, valuing these as an African herself rather than following foreign ones.
This appreciation for African religions doesn’t mean she opposes Christianity at all.
“If it (Christianity) works for you, fine, but me this is what works for me,” Mzbel said. “I feel like I’m opening the way for other people who are like me to boldly do that. I know a lot of people who cherish our traditions and culture but are scared of criticism…”
In the past few years, Mzbel has been involved in religious debates, especially after she expressed her belief that Jesus Christ is not a real figure.
Her choice to embrace African traditional religion has been strong, even naming her son Komfo, which means priest in her culture.
This decision has surprised many Christians in Ghana.
