I CONVERTED FROM CHRISTIANITY TO ISLAM IN SEARCH OF TRUTH – Burna Boy

Grammy-Winning Singer Reveals Spiritual Quest Has Left Him "More Confused," Calls Religion a "Controlled Mechanism"

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Damini Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, has disclosed his journey from Christianity to Islam, stating that his search for spiritual truth has led to more questions than answers.

During an interview on the Plaqueboymax podcast, the artist explained that his initial faith was a product of his upbringing. “I grew up as a Christian, but then I converted to Islam and all types. It is like I have studied it all,” Burna Boy shared, detailing his conscious exploration of various religious doctrines.

Despite his deep dive into different faiths, the singer admitted that his quest has ultimately left him uncertain. “The more I researched, the more confused I got. This is the problem,” he stated, highlighting the challenge of reconciling religious texts with scientific facts.

The artist expressed a skeptical view of organized religion, calling it a “controlled mechanism.” He elaborated, “In all my research, there is always one scientific fact that goes against every book. Everything comes from the workshop of the sun.”

While he remains unsure about specific religious doctrines, Burna Boy affirmed his core belief in a creator and a personal sense of spirituality. “I am very spiritual. I believe we are creations. If we are creations, there must be a creator,” he said. “All I know is that the truth is there is something up there protecting me. That I am in tune with. That is why when I pray, I feel like I am being heard.”

His comments provide a rare glimpse into the philosophical and spiritual mindset of one of Africa’s biggest music exports, revealing a continuous search for meaning beyond the fame and accolades.
