Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has expressed his appreciation to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for selecting him as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The nomination, following discussions with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), represents an important milestone in Bagbin’s political career, as he had previously occupied the same position during the 8th Parliament.
Bagbin, whose commitment to Parliament has been widely acknowledged, stated his desire to keep working on enhancing democratic institutions in Ghana.
He assured that under his guidance, the Ninth Parliament would function with the utmost levels of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness.
Bagbin emphasized that his duties would remain aligned with the principles of justice, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law that have directed his extensive service.
He reiterated his dedication to maintaining these principles, emphasizing that the integrity of Parliament and the citizens it serves will consistently be central to his leadership.
“I extend my profound gratitude to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the honour and trust he has, in consultation with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), placed in me by the decision that I be nominated to be elected as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana,”
“This is both a profound privilege and an onerous responsibility.
A responsibility that I do not take lightly.”
“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey,” he added.
