Reggie Rockstone has outlined his plan for longevity, crediting his decades-long relevance in the unstable music business to a persistent strategy of public accessibility and authenticity while purposefully eschewing the trappings of the “celebrity” label.
“I am a people’s person and so I blend into the fabric of wherever I’m at,” Rockstone stated.
He clarified that despite his iconic status, “I don’t play the celeb role… I’m really a people’s person,” he said when George Quaye interviewed him on Joy Prime monitored by MyNewsGh.
“Me free and in this way I connect to the people direct. So it’s very organic. It’s not forced. I’m very approachable.”
He contrasted today’s era of social media saturation with his own rise to fame, noting that the very concept of “relevance” was different.
“Remember in my time the word relevant wasn’t relevant… you just knew who this person was and you have respect for what they did and you only saw me on TV or heard me on radio. So you didn’t have that much access to me.”
He suggested that this distance created a mystique that modern artists lack.
His core strategy remains simple: remain the same person on and off the stage.
“Who I am in real life and on television and show business I am that same person and so I think this might play a role,” he concluded, adding that his “fun-loving” nature and youthful spirit have been key to connecting with new audiences without forcing the issue.
