I DON’T SEE WHY I SHOULD AVOID PEOPLE COMING CLOSE TO ME AS A CELEBRITY – Kalybos

Ghanaian actor and comedian Richard Asante, popularly known as Kalybos has explained why he tries to treat everyone with kindness, especially his followers.

Kalybos revealed to host Roselyn Felli during an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show that he used to look up to and idolize well-known people like Majid Michel, John Dumelo, and others before he became well-known.

He claimed to know what it’s like for fans to get giddy when they see their favorite celebrity. As a result, he always makes an effort to give everyone a chance to engage with him.

“I’ve always had this thing in my mind that before coming on screen and starting my career as an actor, I used to idolise a lot of people like John Dumelo, Majid Michel. For Majid, I used to see him like God; I had his pictures in my room and all that. So, I know the fan and excitement of a fan when they see a celebrity. So I don’t think me, growing into becoming one, I shouldn’t give someone who idolises me the opportunity to get close.

Being kind to others pays off, according to Kalybos, who also thinks that fans are the main factor behind why superstars are praised in the first place.

“If they’re not giving you that accolade, you’re no one,” he said, emphasising that he has never questioned any interaction with his fans, given that such moments are brief and cost him nothing.

Like everyone else, Kalybos admits he gets angry sometimes, but he does his best to control himself and move on, choosing to let bygones be bygones.

He made these remarks following a recent interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, where he shared how he once received a cheque for GH₵100,000 as a result of a simple act of kindness he showed to some young fans back in 2016.

The actor and comedian is best known for his role in the popular comedy series Boys Kasa, where he starred alongside actress Ahoufe Patri. He is also featured in a new comic-romantic movie titled A Kiss Too Late, set to premiere at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall and West Hills Mall on August 9.
