Veteran Ghanaian songstress, artiste manager and entrepreneur, Mzbel has disclosed the reason for her decision not to go overseas for childbirth.
Mzbel believes that going overseas to have your baby for the purpose of obtaining automatic citizenship is not a positive choice.
She expressed that she would be too timid to travel internationally solely to have her baby.
Mzbel’s remarks were in response to the statements made by Kofi Gabs, a famous Ghanaian social media influencer living in the Netherlands.
In a popular video, Gabs claimed that his Dutch passport is more useful than a PhD from Ghana.
He recounted his own journey of applying for a visa to see a friend in the US through the ESTA app, highlighting how quickly he was approved due to being Dutch.
He emphasized the quick and easy procedure, indicating that it was much easier than the process he would have gone through with a Ghanaian passport.
Gabs continued by stating that the practical advantages of having a Dutch passport are more valuable than the status of earning a PhD in Ghana.
The response from the Ghanaian community has been varied but mostly negative. Several Ghanaians went to the post’s comments section to support the importance of higher degrees from Ghana.
Mzbel emphasized that she is teaching her children that they can achieve success without having to go overseas.
