Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is confident in his capacity to tackle the rising food costs and other economic issues confronting the nation.
Mahama promised Ghanaians in a post on X on Sunday, September 22, 2024, that he has a detailed strategy to address the growing food prices that are putting pressure on households nationwide.
Mahama blamed the current administration for the increased prices of food and essential goods due to what he referred to as inadequate economic management. He stressed the importance of taking prompt and resolute measures to address the issue.
Mahama drew from his past presidency to emphasize his familiarity with the economic terrain, stating that he is capable of turning around the current economic decline and restoring stability in the food market.
“I am clear in my mind what has to be done to halt the daily increase in the price of food and other essential commodities because of the economic mismanagement by the government of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia. We must halt the hardship on people, and go back to the days of price stability. As stated in the Resetting Ghana Manifesto, a number of key interventions, which will reset the economy and prepare it for growth will be implemented,” he tweeted.
His suggested plan involves improving agricultural productivity, providing farmers with affordable inputs, and reinforcing local food supply chains to reduce inflationary pressures.
Moreover, Mahama promised to enforce more extensive economic strategies that target lowering living expenses, enhancing quality of life, and generating long-lasting job prospects for young people.
He furthermore urged Ghanaians to back the NDC in the forthcoming 2024 elections, stressing the party’s commitment to attaining economic stability and fair growth.
