GFA STOPS HEARTS OF OAK FROM USING LEGON SPORTS STADIUM, DIRECTS CLUB TO FIND A NEW VENUE
Accra Hearts of Oak’s communication director, Kwame Opare Addo, has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned the team from using the University of Ghana Stadium as their home venue.
This choice follows the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium by the National Sports Authority (NSA), which has led Hearts of Oak to use the University of Ghana Stadium as their interim home ground for the 2024-2025 football season.
Nonetheless, after a recent evaluation of the stadium, the GFA has declared the facility inadequate for Ghana Premier League (GPL) games and has directed the club to find a different location.
“On Thursday evening, we received information that, per the enhanced safety and security measures, Legon Stadium does not meet the required standards, and as such, we cannot play there.”
He expanded on the GFA’s worries, which underscored security threats and the poor state of the pitch.
“The communication states that the pitch is undulating and that the safety and security zones from where the buses park to the dressing rooms are deemed not secure enough. Because of that, they have ruled the venue unavailable.”
