Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has firmly denied allegations that he suggested former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta should manage his legal issues independently amidst investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Appearing on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Assafuah clarified that his statements had been misconstrued and misreported.
He emphasized that the reports circulating did not accurately represent what he had said or intended.
“I never said anything like that. My words were misrepresented, and that cannot be the position of the party.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes in the rule of law and does not shield anyone found guilty of wrongdoing,” he clarified.
The controversy began when some media outlets reported that Assafuah had advised Ofori-Atta to face his legal battles without expecting support from their political party.
However, Assafuah rejected these claims, noting that the initial article was removed after he addressed the matter with the media outlet responsible.
Assafuah highlighted that his main focus during the discussion was on recent events in the Ashanti Region, specifically accusations of intimidation and unfair practices related to the Council of State elections.
He stressed that his stance on these issues was clear and should not be misrepresented to fit another agenda.
