Popular Kumawood actor and musician, Lilwin has sparked significant controversy regarding the viral hit song Honurable Waawe, which received widespread attention after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.
Lilwin has strongly asserted his ownership of the song, claiming that the concept was taken from him.
In a recent interview, the multi-talented star voiced his annoyance, claiming that De Thompson, the artist of the song, had benefited from his intellectual property without providing proper acknowledgement.
“The concept of Honourable Waawe is mine,” Lilwin declared passionately. “I wrote and composed it in spirit before De Thompson physically crafted it.
It’s disappointing that my idea was taken and used without my acknowledgement.”
The controversy deepened when the show host questioned the basis of Lilwin’s claim.
The host pointed out that the term Honourable Waawe had only appeared in a film where Lilwin played a lead role. In response, the actor stood his ground.
“That film was where I first introduced the term,” he argued. “It’s my creative property, and just because someone put it into a song doesn’t mean they own the idea.
The entire inspiration came from me, and the musician ran with it.”
The song Honurable Waawe emerged as a theme in the political discussion following the elections, as its memorable lyrics and sarcastic tone struck a chord with citizens analyzing the NPP’s defeat.
Its ascent to fame was swift, yet it appears the history of its creation is fraught with controversy.
