A well-known Ghanaian actor named Jagger Pee has stated plainly that he detests being a Ghanaian actor.
The well-known actor claimed in an interview with Citi FM that anyone choosing to work as an actor in Ghana has made a very honourable career choice, but one that is situated in a filthy environment.
He expressed his displeasure with the earnings and income generated by the Ghanaian film industry, saying that even though it had not benefited them personally, they were still carrying on for the benefit of future generations in an effort to effect change.
“If I were to die and reincarnate, I would want to be an actor outside of Ghana rather than in Ghana… The film business is growing everywhere except Ghana. Ghana is a bad country to develop a career in acting. You work for many years with very little remuneration.” He bemoaned.
“Even though Ghana’s film business isn’t developing, we’re still slogging through only to pave the way for our successors in the profession to enter and potentially make a difference,” the seasoned actor remarked, looking absolutely irritated.
Jagger Pee, born Abeiku Nyame, was imprisoned in 1996 with his friend and fellow singer Gee Man as a consequence of a shooting at Accra’s CFC Flats Dome, which led to the death of a taxi driver.
He was granted amnesty after serving two years of his life sentence, half of which was spent on death row. Despite his time in prison, he was one of Ghana’s top actors in the 1990s and has had a big impact on the country’s film industry.
