Ghanaian musician and media personality Mzbel has revealed the truth behind the ring she frequently flaunted during her pregnancy in 2023, dispelling rumors that she was engaged or married. In a candid interview on The U Cook Show with Empress Gifty, Mzbel shared that the ring was a personal request to her partner to shield herself from societal judgment.
During her pregnancy, Mzbel was often seen wearing the ring in photos and at her lavish outdooring ceremony, which sparked widespread speculation about her relationship status. However, she clarified that the ring was not a symbol of marriage or formal engagement but rather a way to avoid the stigma often faced by unmarried pregnant women.
“I asked my baby daddy for the ring, and he bought it for me. If I’m seen without a ring while pregnant, people will mock me and call me ‘jantra’ (prostitute). It’s annoying. But when the ring is on your finger, it silences them,” Mzbel explained.
She added, “To the public, they’ll think I’m married, but when I need to explain, I’ll say I’m engaged.”
When questioned about her stance on marriage, Mzbel shared her unconventional perspective, emphasizing her focus on love and personal happiness over traditional marital norms. “To religious people, marriage is important, but for someone like me, what makes me feel good and happy is falling in love. Also, I can do everything married people do—I can have sex and have children,” she stated bluntly.
Mzbel also addressed whether her family is aware of her relationship with the father of her child. She revealed that her partner has not formally introduced himself to her family or performed any traditional rites. However, she noted that her success and independence have allowed her to shape her own path without familial interference.
“The man hasn’t told my family anything, and he hasn’t performed any rites with them. When you’re rich and successful, your family will just follow whatever you do. So, you have to always work hard to create the happiness you want,” she said.
Regarding her partner’s family, Mzbel disclosed that they are unaware of her role as the mother of their son’s child. She expressed a desire to keep it that way, citing potential complications due to their religious beliefs.
“I don’t think his family knows me, and I don’t even want them to. They’re Christians, and they’ll keep pestering me. They like me, but they don’t know I’m a part of their family. They know me, but they don’t know I’m the mother of their son’s child,” Mzbel revealed.
