‘I THOUGHT IT WAS THE END FOR ME’ — Agradaa Opens Up on Fear, Faith and Life Behind Bars

Evangelist recounts emotional prison entry after nine-month incarceration

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has shared an emotional account of her time in prison, revealing the fear and uncertainty she experienced when she first walked through the prison gates.

Speaking to journalists after her release on Tuesday, March 3, Agradaa reflected on the moment she was taken into custody, describing it as one of the most terrifying periods of her life.

“I was scared when I was going into prison. I thought that was the end for me,” she said.

Agradaa served nine months in prison, two-thirds of a revised one-year custodial sentence, in line with Ghana’s remission regulations. She was initially handed a 15-year jail term for defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, but the sentence was later reduced to one year.

According to her, she never mentally accepted the initial 15-year sentence.

“I never accepted that I was going to serve 15 years because I asked myself, what sin have I committed?” she stated.

Recounting her arrival at the prison facility, she revealed that fear overwhelmed her as she contemplated what lay ahead.

“On my way, I felt I might die in prison,” she said in Twi.

Agradaa explained that when she finally reached the prison gate, she surrendered everything to God.

“When I reached the prison gate, the only thing I could say was, ‘God, I surrender myself to You,’ because I did not know what awaited me inside. I asked Him to have mercy, held my Bible tightly, and walked in.”

Her remarks come shortly after regaining her freedom, marking a new chapter in her controversial public life.

Since her release, reactions have been mixed, with supporters welcoming her return while critics continue to question her past conduct.
