Ghanaian musician Article Wan has voiced his frustrations with the music industry, pointing to a lack of support and sabotage.
He mentioned that “gatekeepers” control the industry and can damage an artist’s career.
In a chat with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, he expressed feeling restrained by Ghana.
Despite his talent and hard work, Article Wan has encountered numerous challenges.
Nonetheless, he remains grateful for his fans’ support and the success his music has achieved, valuing the encouragement he receives in the face of these obstacles.
“Me I was a hard guy, hard guy in my mind. So whenever we recorded, I was the guy that got my song on radio. At the time payola wasn’t a thing but it was there. You could give things like fried rice,” he said.
Asked if he also gave fried rice as payola, he replied: “Oh yeah, just to say ‘thank you’. You know, giving a box of friend rice or chicken and chips was a big deal.”
