Reggie Rockstone known in real life as Reginald Yaw Asante Osei, a veteran musician, has revealed that he was chastised for doing English rap in the past.
“There was a time in the past when I used to rap in English but Ghanaians chastised me to stop sounding so foreign but now they say we should sing in English,” he disclosed on Property FM in Cape Coast.
Speaking about the impact of using English in a song, he said music is a vibration that goes beyond language but it’s nice when people understand the words in the song.
“Music is a vibration and someone might not understand the language used in a song but yet jams to it even the beat of the song can make you like it,” he said in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com
He continued “We’ve listened to Angelique Kidjo for a long time and we feel her songs but I agree that when you understand the words used in the songs that’s also very helpful.
“But that’s not the main thing although we were colonized by Englishmen and that language is worldwide, however, in doing music your identity should be inside”.
