An Irish tourist on his first trip to Ghana was both surprised and amazed by the country’s contemporary cityscape, which contradicted his original assumptions of a rural, less developed setting.
Reflecting on his experience, the traveller confessed that he had envisioned Africa as predominantly rural but was surprised by the existence of global chains such as KFC and modern corporate structures in Accra.
His time in Ghana altered his viewpoint, and he urged others to explore the continent, portraying it as a secure and culturally rewarding place to visit.
In addition to the city sights, the traveller savoured Ghanaian dishes, especially relishing Banku paired with groundnut soup and beef.
I had always perceived Africa as a particularly rural part of the world, but I was surprised to see KFC, Starbucks, and large building corporations similar to those in the Western world when I walked through Accra.
What I would say to anyone who has thought of coming over to Africa, it is just a fantastic place to be. We had a great time, we met lovely people. It is really safe and you’d get a fantastic cultural experience that you’re not going to get anywhere else in the world.
So last night I tried Banku with my family, with some kind of mix of groundnut soup and beef, and it was delicious.
