I WAS TOLD POLITICS IS NOT FOR ‘CANTATA’ PEOPLE LIKE ME – Actress And MP-Elect, Ebi Bright

Ghanaian actress and recently elected MP for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, has disclosed an unexpected insight regarding her entry into politics.

Ebi, a professional diplomat, stated that she was outrightly dismissed multiple times due to her political aspirations when she participated in campaigns.

In recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ebi stated that she faced ridicule and mockery for being deemed unsuitable for politics due to her “Cantata” background.

I’m not going to Parliament to fight for the industry, you didn’t put me there- A Plus to creatives)

“I was told point blank that politics is not for ‘cantata’ people like me. I remember one man saying, “Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts?” This is how people are marginalised and I know my win will encourage many creatives.

“I intend to move beyond partisanship and have a good strategy that serves the interest of the people of Tema Central,” she said.

She expressed to Graphic Showbiz her happiness in inspiring her peers to consider politics when she made her initial effort to enter Parliament in 2012, which was not under the NDC ticket at that time.

Ebi Bright, Development Communicator and Career Diplomat, expressed that her victory was significant to her, especially since she secured a seat typically seen as a secure one for the ruling NPP.

“I don’t see any barriers in the pursuit of my interests. That is why I have broken all the odds against me in this election. Tema Central was considered a very safe seat for the NPP but here we are today. I’m elated to be part of our next Parliament,” she said.
