Serial social media troll Albert Nat Hyde, also known as Bongo Ideas, has spoken out over a recent case of alleged kidnapping and torture.
A few weeks ago, Bongo Ideas was the target of an arrest that was linked to state security personnel. However, he was later released from custody by both national security and the police, according to statements they released separately.
He was then brought home a few days later, purportedly in poor condition.
He discussed his trauma with German network DW Africa in his first interview following his rescue. He claimed that people “claiming to be police officers” were responsible for his ordeal.
He revealed that he received threats at gunpoint and advice not to go after the president.
“On 14th March 2024, around 3 am, some men masquerading as policemen entered my room and dragged me out. I was threatened to be killed where pistols were pointed to my head and I was told to say my last prayers.
“They beat me up and all and they warned me never to speak about the president,” he told DW News.
He caused division on social media on the treatment he was getting, with a sizable majority of people saying that he was the target of these attacks.
Some who defended him advocated using democratic procedures to address his abuses rather than threatening a citizen with unidentified assailants.
