Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, has warned that he will fire any of his workers who participate in the national strike organized by Organized Labour to protest against Galamsey.
In a recent interview, Mr Jumah stated that the strike by Organized Labour does not affect GIHOC employees. He continued by saying that it is not relevant for them to go on strike since the matter being protested does not impact them.
In the meantime, Organised Labour plans to initiate a countrywide strike on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
The group was unhappy with President Akufo-Addo’s reaction to their requests concerning illegal mining, also known as Galamsey, and its impact on the people and water sources in Ghana.
“We have concluded as follows; our strike remains unchanged. We are of the view that what the government has proposed does not adequately address our demands and therefore our notice of strike remains unchanged.” The Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, reiterated.
