Rapper Medikal has said that he no longer gauges his success by the popularity of his songs, rather, he is satisfied when even a small number of people relate to his work.
In a recent interview on 3Music TV, the Ghanaian rapper, who goes by Samuel Adu Frimpong in private, stated this.
He clarified that creating music is now more about expressing oneself than it is about trying to appeal to a large audience.
“If I do music and even 5 people like the song, I’m cool. I don’t take it personal that my songs have to blow,” the rapper said.
Medikal revealed that his personal favorites are Baddie and DND, even if his popular song “Shoulder” has had a lot of exposure. The others are still waiting for their day, but one has established itself as a club mainstay.
“With all the songs I’ve recorded, I can’t say my favourite song from myself is Shoulder. My favourites are Baddie and DND.
“You won’t really hear them in clubs, and they are not loud compared to Shoulder. Shoulder is everywhere, but songs like Baddie are yet to be noticed,” he stated.
Medikal continued, “Baddie is especially relatable because of its bold and explicit lyrics.”
