IF I HAD THE MONEY, I WOULD BUY BUSES TO COMMUTE MY PEOPLE EVERY DAY — Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, John Dumelo

John Dumelo, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, has stated that he is confident that the Ministry of Transport is actively attempting to address the ongoing issue of passenger overcharging during rush hours, which he claims still affects a large number of Ghanaians.

Mr. Dumelo was responding to a widely shared video in which he was seen encouraging commuters who were stuck to get on a Metro Mass Transit bus.

In response, he clarified that the incident happened after he personally went to Metro Mass Transit to arrange and pay for buses to take people who were stuck at Okponglo and Shiashie to Madina and Lapaz.

He claimed that because many commercial drivers and their associates had raised fares excessively, making it hard for some passengers to pay, commuters were unable to hire cars to return home.

Mr. Dumelo expressed his strong feelings about the transportation issue on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa Morning Show, citing the strategic importance of his constituency in particular.

“The transport situation is an issue I am deeply passionate about, especially because most of the major roads lead to Ayawaso,” he said on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa Morning Show.

He further stated that the free transportation program he oversaw is a short-term solution designed to lessen passengers’ immediate misery. He stated that the initiative will last between one week and ten days.

“To be honest, if I had the money, I would buy buses to commute my people every single day,” Mr Dumelo said.

The MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon reaffirmed his conviction that concerted efforts by state agencies, especially the Ministry of Transport, to control tariffs and enhance public transportation systems are necessary for lasting solutions.

Many commuters have praised Mr. Dumelo’s acts and described them as timely and sympathetic in the face of ongoing economic pressures.
