IF WE PLAY WELL AND QUALIFY FOR WORLD CUP, GHANAIANS WILL FIND IT IN THEIR HEARTS TO RALLY BEHIND THE TEAM AGAIN – Mahama To Black Stars Ahead Of Chad Game

President John Dramani Mahama has advised the Black Stars to move past the disappointment of not qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and focus their efforts on making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This setback was unexpected for Ghana, as it was the first time in 20 years they didn’t qualify for AFCON, a tournament where they have been champions four times.

Despite their strong history, the team struggled recently, losing all six qualifying matches and finishing last in their group, which many thought would be easy for them.

On Wednesday, Mahama visited the team at the Accra Sports Stadium to boost their morale.

He urged the players to put the disappointment behind them and concentrate on performing well in the World Cup qualifiers, aiming to redeem themselves.

Before you start the qualifiers, let’s put the AFCON debacle behind us and look forward, knowing that we can redeem ourselves. I know that in the World Cup qualifiers, you’re going to redeem yourselves. And if we play well, we will qualify.”

President Mahama highlighted the importance of performing well to regain the trust and support of Ghanaians, who are still dealing with the disappointment of past losses in the Africa Cup of Nations.

He emphasized that impressive performances are crucial for healing and moving forward.

“Ghanaians will find it in their hearts to come fully behind the team again. And I know you can do it. You’re all talented players. We’re going to continue to support you, not only for the World Cup but beyond. We think that we must build a very strong team.”

Furthermore, President Mahama promised that the Black Stars would receive complete support from all Ghanaians.

He committed to being personally present at the game, showing his dedication and encouraging others to rally behind the team as they strive for success.

I will take time off and watch the game myself even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer. They say I should eat before I go and watch. My hope is that you will justify my sitting and watching you guys. The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you and I’m sure that you can make it.”
