IF YOU SHOOT AT A POLICE OFFICER, WE WILL COME AFTER YOU – President Mahama Warns

President John Dramani Mahama has warned criminal elements who target police officers, declaring that the state will respond decisively to any attack on security personnel.

Speaking at the National Police Headquarters on Thursday, January 8, after presenting 100 pickup vehicles to the Ghana Police Service to strengthen nationwide operations, the President said there would be “no hiding place” for criminals who attempt to injure or kill officers in the line of duty.

“There will be no hiding place for criminal elements. I said this afternoon, especially the criminal elements who seek to either injure or kill our police officers and other security officers, we shall come after you and deal with you very ruthlessly when we catch up with you,” President Mahama stated.

He said the warning was informed by recent losses suffered by the Police Service, recalling a memorial event held to honour officers who died while performing their duties.

“Recently we attended a memorial service, a memorial event to honour police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty in the last one year, and several of them had been shot either by armed robbers or other criminal elements,” he said.

President Mahama stressed that attacks on police officers would attract an uncompromising response from law enforcement agencies.

“I want to serve notice that the police deal very ruthlessly with anybody who harms, injures, or kills a police officer. We will hunt them down, and we’ll neutralize them, and so this is serving notice to those elements. If you shoot at a police officer, we’ll come after you,” he warned.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equipping the Police Service, pointing to recent investments in logistics and equipment.

“In December 2025, when we handed over 40 armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service, I made a clear commitment to the nation that this government will continue to retool the service, not with words but with action,” he said.
