IGP DAMPARE LAUNCHES REWARDS SYSTEM TO CURB ELECTORAL BREACHES

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has unveiled a rewards system to encourage the public to voluntarily report electoral violations.

Under this initiative, individuals who provide credible information leading to the apprehension of perpetrators of electoral breaches can receive monetary rewards ranging from ₵1,000 to ₵20,000.

Speaking about the program, IGP Dampare emphasized the importance of safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. He noted that the rewards system is part of broader efforts by the Ghana Police Service to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections.

“This initiative is aimed at promoting public participation in maintaining law and order during elections. Citizens are key stakeholders in protecting the democratic process, and their involvement is crucial,” Dampare stated.

The IGP further assured the public of confidentiality and protection for informants, encouraging more people to come forward with information.

The move has been widely praised by various civil society organizations and election observers as a proactive measure to deter misconduct during elections. However, some have called for strict guidelines to ensure the system is not abused.

As Ghana prepares for its upcoming elections, this rewards system is expected to serve as a deterrent to electoral malpractice while promoting transparency and accountability.
