“I’M GOING TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR YOU—NO ONE SHOULD CLOSE IT AGAIN” – Mahama Assures Creatives at Black Star Experience Launch

President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to transform Ghana’s creative sector into an inclusive, barrier-free space that supports artistic innovation and national cultural identity. He made the bold commitment during the official launch of the Black Star Experience at the Black Star Square in Accra on Wednesday, May 1, 2025.

Addressing a gathering of artists, musicians, fashion designers, cultural leaders, and policymakers, President Mahama declared:

“As president, I’m going to open up the creative space for everyone. And once that door is opened, it should never be shut again.”

The Black Star Experience is a major creative and tourism initiative introduced under the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 manifesto. It seeks to position Ghana as Africa’s premier destination for culture, arts, and entertainment. The programme will feature year-round cultural activities such as street carnivals, fashion parades, food expos, talent shows, and music festivals, all aimed at driving economic growth through the creative economy.

Mahama urged creatives across the country to take full advantage of the initiative, promising an open-door policy for innovators, regardless of political affiliation.

“This is something we’re doing together—every single one of us. Bring your ideas, your talent, your energy. Let’s make this the beginning of something truly powerful,” he encouraged.

The president also stressed that the Black Star Experience is not a partisan project but a national legacy meant to transcend political administrations.

“This must outlive any government. Whether it’s NDC, NPP, CPP, or any other party, we are all Ghanaians. We are the Black Star, and we must all be proud of our culture and who we are,” he stated.

Industry stakeholders and creatives in attendance welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm, seeing it as a long-awaited turning point for Ghana’s arts and culture sector.

The Black Star Experience is expected to create jobs, empower young talent, and reshape Ghana’s global image as a cultural powerhouse.
