‘I’M NOT BOTHERED ABOUT A LEGACY, ANYONE WHO TRIES TO CREATE ONE WILL FAIL’ – Uncle Ebo Whyte

“Uncle” Ebo Whyte.

Many people are curious about how renowned playwright Ebo Whyte wants to be remembered and how he plans to uphold his legacy, given his many achievements in the creative arts industry.

In an interview with GhanaWeb TV for the documentary “The Uncle Ebo Whyte Story: A Legacy of Inspiration & Creativity,” Ebo Whyte commented on the significance of living in the present and the impact of legacy.

he stated that he has no interest in preserving or fulfilling a legacy.

“I’ve never been bothered about legacy because I think anyone who goes out of his way to try to create a legacy will fail. The important thing is to do what you are doing to the best of your ability today, and posterity will decide whether you leave a legacy or not,” he told Benefo Buabeng, popularly known as Abrantepa.

He stressed that a legacy cannot be controlled by oneself but is shaped by future generations according to one’s influence.

“You see African dictators who put up monuments to themselves. When they died or were overthrown, what did we do? We broke it all down.”

He thinks that a person’s true legacy is achieved by staying loyal to their purpose and maximizing the chances they are given.

“So it is not up to you to decide what your legacy will be. But if you were faithful to whatever you thought your calling was, or whatever opportunities came your way if you were committed to it and did the best you could, then the future posterity, looking at your impact, would then decide that ‘Yes, he left us a legacy of this thing,’” Whyte explained.

For now, Uncle Ebo Whyte is focused on enjoying his work. “For a 70-year-old man to be doing this, that is very huge for me,” he concluded.

His passion and dedication to his craft are captured in the GhanaWeb TV documentary “The Uncle Ebo Whyte Story: A Legacy of Inspiration & Creativity.”

.It includes perspectives from different individuals who have been influenced by Ebo Whyte. The documentary reveals fascinating information about the well-known playwright.

It also explores his path from initial setbacks and money troubles, to losing his vehicle, and employment, and even destroying his diplomas.
