I’M PROUD THAT TODAY A GHANAIAN CREATIVE IS FINALLY GETTING THE ATTENTION WE’VE BEEN FIGHTING FOR — Rex Omar

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has received nothing but love from Ghanaian highlife legend and Coordinator of the Blackstar Experience, Rex Omar, who calls him a true pioneer of modern Ghanaian music.
Speaking on Joy Prime TV’s Prime Morning, the seasoned musician discussed years of pushing for greater funding and recognition for Ghana’s creative industry.
He claimed that Shatta Wale personifies the audacity, vigor, and vision that drove his own career-long drive for industry change.
When asked which contemporary artist best embodies activism, Rex Omar immediately mentioned Shatta Wale.
“I see myself in Shatta Wale,” he said. “He picked up what I started and took it to a different level. I’m proud that today, a Ghanaian musician, a Ghanaian creative, is finally receiving the attention we’ve been fighting for.”
He clarified that Shatta Wale and his friends’ current prominence and influence are the outcomes of their tenacious lobbying, which has taken decades to show dividends.
