I’M READY FOR EITHER OUTCOME – Kwabena Agyepong Shrugs Off Polls Ahead of NPP Flagbearer Race
Presidential aspirant questions credibility of frequent opinion polls, says he’s emotionally prepared for victory or defeat

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kwabena Agyei Agyepong says he is mentally and emotionally prepared for any outcome in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, whether victory or defeat.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, the former NPP General Secretary said politics must be approached with realism, not entitlement, stressing that he has conditioned himself for both possibilities ahead of the January 31, 2026 contest.
“I believe in an election, it’s not like a football game. It’s either you win, or you do not win, and you have to prepare yourself emotionally for either outcome, which is what I have done,” Mr. Agyepong stated.
Mr. Agyepong’s comments come amid a flurry of opinion polls making the rounds in traditional and social media, many of which claim to predict the likely winner of the NPP’s hotly contested flagbearer race.
The engineer expressed deep scepticism about the credibility and methodology of some of the frequent polling reports, arguing that the logistics and cost of conducting genuine nationwide surveys are often underestimated.
“It costs a lot of money to do polls, so I’m surprised that certain pollsters can virtually give you weekly polls,” he said.
“To travel around 276 constituencies and administer proper questionnaires and get a proper sample size must cost some money.”
He suggested that some of the polls might be psychological tactics designed to influence delegates rather than reflect genuine voting intentions.
“I’m beginning to feel that this is psychological operations, calculated to fashion the thinking and direction of delegates, rather than the expression of their true preference for now,” he argued.
Despite his reservations, Mr. Agyepong said he does not entirely dismiss opinion polls but prefers to stay focused on his campaign and message.
“So yes, I don’t dismiss them, but at the end of the day, I’m a very focused person,” he said.
Mr. Agyepong, a civil engineer and long-serving member of the NPP, is among five aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearership in what is expected to be a fiercely contested primary.
The election, slated for January 31, 2026, will determine who leads the NPP into the 2028 general elections, with party unity and leadership style emerging as key themes in the race.
