“I AM GOING TO CONTEST AS NPP FLAGBEARER AGAIN AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME” – Kennedy Agyapong Declares

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a key figure in Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has boldly declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in his characteristic defiant tone, Agyapong announced, “I am going to contest the NPP flagbearer race for the 2028 elections, and nobody can stop me!”

This declaration marks the businessman’s clearest indication yet of his continued ambition to lead the NPP, following his strong showing in the party’s 2023 presidential primaries, where he placed second to current flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Agyapong’s 2024 campaign gained significant grassroots support due to his outspoken views on corruption, governance, and economic patriotism. His latest statement is expected to energize his base and reshape early discussions within the party about succession planning after 2024.

Kennedy Agyapong previously contested in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries, finishing second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47%. Despite falling short, his strong performance demonstrated significant support within the party.

With the party gearing up for a competitive primary, Kennedy Agyapong’s early declaration is likely to shape the contest as NPP members and supporters closely watch the unfolding dynamics.

Political observers believe his announcement may heighten internal competition as the NPP begins its long-term strategy for reclaiming power in 2028.
