IMF IS UNHAPPY OFORI-ATTA IS LEADING NEGOTIATIONS – Kwabena Agyapong

Kwabena Agyapong, a former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to prepare for harder times amid economic difficulties.

He underlined that the IMF was the appropriate place for Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s finance minister, to seek international assistance.

Mr. Agyapong reiterated his opinion that Ken Ofori-steadfast Atta’s anti-IMF stance was the reason why he had to resign from his position as finance minister after the government decided to pursue an IMF rescue package in a conversation with Kweku Sintim Misa (KSM).

“I know how these agencies work and sometimes they want to be very diplomatic. I am sure they are not happy that he is the one leading the negotiations. in their view, they want a stark departure from what happened in the past”

“I expected the president to relieve Ken Ofori-Atta of his duties as minister of finance, he has not done it, that is his choice but we should expect very tough negotiations going forward and it is not going to be easy,”  he said.

Ghana is currently experiencing a recession, and major parties are fiercely opposing a plan to reduce domestic debt.

To help the struggling economy, the government is attempting to reach a deal with the IMF.
